Monday of the Second Week of Easter
Acts 4:23-31 | Ps. 2:1-9 | Jn. 3:1-8
The apostles return home and give an accounting to their companions of all that happened to them. All gathered to give thanks and praise; and, as a result, the Holy Spirit worked mightily in them. Nicodemus comes to Jesus by night because he is afraid of his peers. He is beginning to hear all that Jesus is teaching, yet he does not fully understand. He wants to know and so he asks the question: “How can one be born again?” Jesus’ response is that He is speaking about a spiritual birth by which we are gifted with the power of God through the Holy Spirit. Jesus also tells us that the gifts of God flow freely to all. What is needed on our part is an openness so that these gifts can enter our beings.
How many times we are fearful to believe what we hear through scripture or prayer! We are afraid of being ridiculed by family or peers. Jesus tells us that fear is useless. We are invited to trust, to listen to the Spirit who inspires us and draws us to God. Having listened, we are invited to respond. The choice is ours. What will your choice be today?
