Easter Sunday

Acts 10:34, 37-43 | Ps. 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23 | Col. 3:1-4 | Jn. 20:1-9

Happy Easter! What a glorious day this is! No matter what the weather is, rain, sleet, snow, or sun this day will always be glorious to those who believe in Jesus. We have spent the Easter Triduum and Lent in preparation for the celebration of this day. If we have taken the time to walk the Lenten journey, then we will surely enjoy this day and enter into the joy of Jesus as He celebrates His victory over sin. All the readings have a theme of joy or exultation. We should join in this great celebration knowing as Paul tells us that if we have died with Christ so we will rise with Him. Looking at the Gospel, we have John’s description of the events. Mary Magdalen was the first at the tomb. She goes to tell the apostles; Peter and John to go to see. John tells us that they saw and believed because they had not yet understood the scriptures: “that He must rise from the dead.” What a feeling must have overcome these people! What a great joy we should likewise experience.

Spend time with this Gospel passage today. Ask God to help you enter into this wonderful experience. Try to be with Mary Magdalen, Peter, and John as they come to know about Christ’s Resurrection. Give thanks and praise to God for this great gift. Sit for a few minutes in quiet and allow Jesus to touch your heart.
