Friday within the Octave of Easter

Acts 4:1-12 | Ps. 118:1-2, 4, 22-27a | Jn. 21:1-14

John describes the appearance of Jesus to the disciples who were fishing in the Sea of Tiberias. They had been fishing all night and caught nothing. Jesus stood by the shore and told them where to cast the net. They caught so much fish that the nets almost broke. John recognizes Jesus and tells the others. Peter swims to shore. When all are there, Jesus cooks breakfast for them. This is the third time Jesus appears to the disciples. It is as if Jesus is trying to build up the disciples so that they will be ready to serve after the Holy Spirit comes on Pentecost. Jesus is feeding the disciples both spiritually and physically. He is tending to their wounds so that they will be healed ministers. Jesus desires to feed and heal all of us. We are called to be open to the food of His Word and Self.

Today, rejoice in the continued pursuit of Jesus for you. Rejoice that Jesus comes to be with you. Take time to rejoice with Jesus. Share that joy with all with whom you come in contact today. Bring this good news of God’s love to all.
