Familiarity with the Lord

Jer. 28:1-17 | Ps. 119:29, 43, 79-80, 95, 102 | Mt. 24:22-36

We have two contrasting stories of people who prayed.  The false prophet Hananiah predicted that the Jewish people would be released from Nebedkednezzers rule.  He is prophesizing in order to look good in the eyes of the people.  Jeremiah predicts his death by the end of a year because of his false prophesies.  Jesus is retiring to a lonely place after he hears the word about John’s beheading.   The people are searching for Him and arrive before He does.  Despite his personal needs, He has compassion and provides for the needs of the people.

Today, consider your response to people.  Are you compassionate?  Do you bring the word of God to people or do you try to tell people what they want to hear regardless of its keeping in tune with God?  Ask God for the compassion of Jesus in order to see the needs of others, and then respond to those needs.
