Feast of Sts. Pontian and Hippolytus

Ez. 18: 1-10, 13b, 30-32 | Ps. 51:12-15, 18-19 | Mt. 19:13-15

Ezekiel is relating the desires of God for His people.  God is calling the people to live lives of peace, justice, care and concern.  Those who live thus will be rewarded.  Those who do not will not be rewarded.  What causes us to live according to God’s ways?  Love!  One who loves will live with love towards others.  We see the depth of Christ’s love in the Gospel when he refuses to send the children away despite his exhaustion.  Jesus invites us to look at the children and imitate their qualities of openness, joy and love.  When we do so, Christ will be able to enter into our lives and touch us deeply.  In turn, we will be able to go out and touch others with love.  The circle of love will then grow and grow and grow.

How might Christ be inviting you today?  How loving are you?  How open to Christ’s love are you?  Ask for the grace to be open as children and allow Christ’s love to touch you deeply.
