Feast of Sts, Eusebius and St. Peter Julian Eymard
Jer. 30:1-2, 12-15, 18-22 | Ps. 102:16-23, 29 | Mt. 14:22-36
Both readings show the contrast of being in trouble and God’s intervention and healing. The Israelites were in trouble. God came to their aid and freed them. The apostles, likewise, are in trouble. Their boat is being tossed and turned on the Lake of Geneserath. Jesus comes to their aid. Peter, always the first to jump in, asks Jesus to call him to walk on the water as a proof of his presence. Jesus does so. Peter believes and begins his walk and then begins to fall. He has faltered. Can you think of times in your own life when you were brave until it came close to actually performing the deed and then you began to fear? Most of us are like Peter. We are sure of ourselves and then begin to fail because we have not transferred our faith to faith in God. God asks faith from us. When we believe and act out of our belief, God will come to us and take care of our needs.
Take time today to consider your belief and love of God. Do you fully believe that Christ can and will heal you? Go to Christ today with deep faith, and ask Him to supply the faith you lack.
