Wednesday of the 21st Week in Ordinary Time

Readings: 2Thes. 3:6-10, 16-18 | Ps. 128:1-2, 4-5 | Mt. 23:27-32

Jesus’ message against being hypocritical continues in today’s Gospel. It seems as though Jesus has no patience with these people. Why not? Probably because they are the leaders of the Jewish people and have refused to let God touch their hearts and heal them from their callous ways. Jesus has tried many times to do so, but they remain undaunted and continue to make life difficult for their followers. God’s message remains the same. It is a message of love. The Pharisees have varied messages, and they do not bring peace to people. This is Jesus’quarrel with them. Jesus came as God’s messenger, and His message brings God’s love to all.

Today, stop to consider what kind of messenger you are. Do you bring God’s love and peace to all? Do you exact unreal burdens from people? This time, this day, is a good time to reflect on your life and to bring peace to those with whom you live and work.
