Thursday of the Twenty First Week in Ordinary Time

1Thes. 3:7-13 | Ps. 90:3-5, 12-14, 17 | Mt.24:42-51

Both readings teach about faithfulness to the Word of God.  Paul is commending the Thessalonians for their steadfastness in keeping all that he has taught them about God and the service of God.

The Gospel continues to invite us to live lives worthy of the Gospel and to be prepared for the end of our lives.  Jesus tells to be awake and prepared.  If we know when a robber is coming, we will be prepared.  However, since we do not have an exact time when our lives will end, Jesus tells us to live every minute with great love for God and neighbor.  Doing this, we will be prepared for the moment that God class us home. Jesus continues to give us the example of the faithful and unfaithful steward.  The faithful steward is likewise the one who lives out of love and is always prepared to follow the Master in bringing the Gospel to all.

Give thanks to God for all those who have given their lives in service for you. Give thanks for Jesus, John the Baptist, and so many others.  Ask God to help you as you live each moment of your life in peace, calm and joy.
