Feast of St. Monica
Readings: 1Cor. 1:17-25 | Ps. 33:1-2, 4-5, 10-11 | Mt. 25:1-13
We hear the word “wisdom” in today’s readings. What do you think wisdom is? Have you met anyone whom you think is wise? How do you think God defines wisdom? Today’s descriptions cause us to stand back and wonder. Paul calls us to embrace the cross and follow in the footsteps of Christ. Truly the world would not consider this wisdom. Christ tells the story of the virgins who were to wait for the groom with lights. However, five did not come prepared and their lights did not last. Jesus calls these virgins “unwise.” The wise virgins were those who were prepared. Christ invites us to be prepared by living lives according to the Gospel and by doing so each day. We will not know when we will die. We do not want to be caught short because we did not live with love each day.
How do you live your life? What was yesterday like? Did you treat all you met, your family, co-workers, others with love? How could you improve your relations with others? Take time today to make amends and to live with love towards all.
