1Cor. 2:10b-16 | Ps.145:8-14 | Lk. 4:31-37
Today we see Jesus in Capernaum teaching the people. He is accepted by the people; so, He is able to perform miracles and cast out demons. The people state: He commands unclean spirits with authority and power and they come out. These people seem to have the exact opposite reaction to Jesus as did the people from Nazareth. What is it that enables some people to accept Jesus and others to reject him? Perhaps Paul’s letter to the Corinthians helps. No one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit that is from God so that we may understand and wisely use the things freely given us by God. Thus, we are called to claim that Spirit of God given us in Baptism and listen to the prompting of that Spirit. If we do, we will be able to discern what comes from God as opposed to what does not.
Spend time today and reflect on the reading from Luke. Ask God to enable you to listen to the Spirit of God at work in you. Follow those promptings. How will you bring God’s Good News to those around you? Remember God is with you to direct you.
