Wednesday of the Twenty Second Week in Ordinary time

1 Cor.3:1-9 | Ps. 33:12-15, 20-21 | Luke 4:38-44

Jesus goes to Simon’s home to relax.  Simon’s mother-in-law is sick, and Jesus heals her.  She returns the gift by showing her gratitude through preparing a meal for Him.  That evening all who are sick, etc. come to Jesus to be healed.  The next morning He goes to a lonely place to pray.  He has labored hard and is in need of time to recoup; so, He finds a lonely place to pray.  There are many lessons in this Gospel, but let us look at the two mentioned above.  One, when Simon’s Mother-in-law is cured, she returns the gift with hospitality.  It was a Jewish custom to show appreciation immediately.  Two, Jesus knows when He needs to have time to be regenerated.  Frequently, we find him going off to a lonely place to pray.  Which of these two lessons do you find you need more?

Take this scripture reading and begin a time of prayer asking for the grace you need.  Spend time with the lesson and allow God to touch your heart and teach you how to live this lesson in your daily life. Give thanks to God at the end of your prayer for all the ways God has been present to you.
