Ex. 33:7-11, 34:5b-9, 28 | Ps. 103:6-13 | Mt. 13:36-43
We listen as Moses pitches the tent for the “Meeting Place” outside the Israelites’ Camp. Moses calls this the Meeting Place because it was the place where God was met. When Moses enters the tent, the cloud of God hovers over the tent while Moses speaks with God. Moses enters the tent and learns to call God, the Lord. Moses spends forty days and nights before the Lord, and he writes the Ten Commandments for the second time.
Jesus explains the parable of the sower to His disciples. The sower of good seed is Jesus, the weeds are the children of evil and the sower is the devil. Jesus is trying to teach the people that He has come to do good yet in the midst of that good there are evil forces headed by the devil. These evil forces will do their utmost to cause all of the followers of goodness to join in the evil of the world. Jesus invites us to listen to the good, rely on God, and remain faithful to the end. In so doing we will continue the reign of God on this earth and help to spread that goodness to all.
Sometimes we try to do things on our own. We are being invited to realize that we need Jesus to help us with our work. Reliance on Jesus gives us all we need. Reliance on Jesus enables us to remain steadfast rather than giving up. Ask God to give you the strength to remain steadfast.
