Jos. 3:7-11, 13-17 | Ps. 114:1-6 | Mt. 18:21, 19:1

Joshua leads the Israelites across the Jordan River.  The whole of Israel crosses the Jordan in a similar fashion as they crossed the Mediterranean Sea.  God has kept the covenant with the people and has led them to the Promised Land.

The Gospel relates the story of the King who has forgiven the debt owed by a servant.  This servant, however, does not do the same in regard to a fellow servant.  Instead of forgiving the debt, the fellow servant is thrown into jail.  When he is reported to the King, the King punishes him and throws him into jail.  Each of us has been forgiven over and over again for our sins by God.  God wishes/desires that we learn how to be forgiving as God is forgiving.  If God forgives us our many sins, can we not forgive the few committed against us?  Where are our large hearts?  Where is our compassion?

Take time to remember God’s steadfastness and God’s forgiving compassion in your life.  Give thanks for these gifts.  How is God inviting you to return this love in regard to others?
