Nm. 12:1-13 | Ps. 51:1, 3-7, 12-13 | Mt. 14:22-36
Jesus has just finished feeding the five thousand. He sends His disciples across the Sea of Galilee and remains behind to pray. The disciples are caught in a storm. Jesus appears and Peter tells Jesus: “Lord if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” Jesus replies, “Come.” Peter does so but then allows his fear to override his trust and he begins to sink. You and I face many times in our lives when we begin something new, and we trust that all will go well. However, after a short time, we begin to be worried that all will not go well, etc. Jesus asks us: “Why do you doubt?” If we believe that God is a loving God and that God cares for us abundantly, then we should place all our trust in God, knowing that God would never allow harm to come to us.
Take time to pray with this Gospel. Put yourself in Peter’s place and hear Jesus lovingly calling you out of your comfort zone. Rely on Jesus to help you each step of the way. Give thanks to God for His great love for you.
