Nm. 13:1-2, 25-14:1, 26-29, 34-35 | Ps. 106:6-7, 13-14, 21-23 | Mt. 15:21-28
The first reading tells us about the scouts who went to the promised land to check it out. They return with negative news, and the people cry out against God. In the Gospel, we see a Canaanite woman who approaches Jesus to heal her daughter. Jesus does not respond positively. Instead of complaining, the woman takes Jesus’ response and uses it as a means to show how unconcerned she is about the words. She is so filled with faith in Jesus’ abilities that she will not give up. Jesus recognizes this and commends her for her faith; and, at the same time, He heals her daughter. We have two examples to choose from in these readings. Which one will you choose? God wants only the best for His people.
Take time to reflect on your faith. Do you truly believe in God’s love for you? How do
you respond when the task is challenged or seems to require more than you think you have? Ask God for the help you need.
