James 1:1-11 | Ps. 119: 67, 68, 71-72, 75-76 | Mark 8:11-13
Both readings call us to look at the quality of our faith. James is telling the Christians to ask God for what they need but to do so with faith that never wavers. Jesus is confronted by Pharisees who want a sign from Him to prove to them that He is a prophet. Jesus will not stoop to their level and in disgust walks away from them. Check out your life in Christ. How much do you trust Christ? Do you believe in Him fully or do you waiver? Do you want Him to prove Himself by providing some magical response?
Pause today to look at your life. How much of it is lived out of trust in God? How much of it is lived out of a need to stockpile to ensure that you will have enough?
How much time do you spend in prayer as compared with the time you spend in stockpiling? What change will you make?
