2Kings 4:8-11, 14-16a | Ps. 89:2-3, 16-19 | Rom. 6:3-4, 8-11 | Mt. 10:37-42
Elisha. a prophet is a guest of a family each time he travels through the area. The family set up a special room for him so he could relax. Elisha, seeing their kindness, intercedes with God for the woman to have a child. Jesus speaks about the attitude of service for others. He tells us that when we do things for others, we will be rewarded. This attitude comes from a deeper virtue by which we recognize that whatever we have must be shared with others. We have not earned any of our gifts. They have been freely given to us by God. The individual who recognizes this and lives this way is usually a very happy individual who infects others with this joy and love. The more this person gives, the happier he or she seems to be.
Pause to see how tightly you hold your gifts and possessions. Do you live out of a spirit of faith and joyful sharing? Do you live in a miserly way? Which attitude brings you more peace and joy? How will you continue to share your gifts?
