Ex. 11:10-12:14 | Ps. 116:12-13, 15-18 | Mt. 12:1-8

Exodus continues the story of the Israelites' flight out of Egypt.  We hear the story of the Passover today and are called to gratitude for God’s care for the people.  The Gospel tells the story of the disciples who are hungry and pick grain on the Sabbath.  The Pharisees, the guardian

of all the laws, criticize Jesus for allowing them to do so.  Jesus reminds them of what David did to feed his soldiers.  Jesus tells them that God desires mercy, not sacrifice.  Jesus adds: “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

God is more concerned that people’s needs are cared for.  Laws are always secondary to the needs of people.  How do you respond to the needs of those around you?  Do you help them, or do you look for excuses to save yourself from becoming involved?  What can you do today?
