Ex. 20:1-17 | Ps. 19:8-11 | Mt. 13:18-23
Exodus relates the giving of the Ten Commandments to Moses by God. God is trying to give the Israelites a process to use to help the people learn how to work with one another. Jesus is telling the parable of the sower who went out to sow seeds. The seed falls on various types of soil. According to the tightness of the soil, the seed will grow and produce fruit. Soil that is rich, arid and pliable, produces fruit whether that is 10%, 20%, 50% or 100%. This story continues the theme from yesterday and makes more vivid the need to have fertile soil. Those who are around Jesus hear the invitation once again; and, Jesus is able to show how the type of soil produces the quality of the fruit.
We are called once again to allow God to till the soil of our hearts and souls and make them fertile. God will do most of the work. We just have to respond and be welcoming. By doing so, we will produce fruit which will bring honor and glory to God.
