Gn. 19:15-29 | Ps. 26:2-3, 9-12 | Mt. 8:23-27
Both readings teach us that God is in control of this world of ours. Lot’s family is saved because of the intercession of Abraham and because Lot’s family remained faithful to God. The messengers of God to Lot were to be listened to as we are to listen to Jesus. Through the messengers, Lot is led to safety. Through Jesus, the disciples are saved from the angry sea.
God continues to lead and guide us today through the Word of God in Scripture, the word spoken through the homily at Mass, the sacraments, the people who teach us about God, and through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in our lives. When we are fearful, anxious, lonely, etc., we can look to find God in all of the above. Each time we do so, with faith, we will find God’s healing presence.
Take time to reflect on the events and moments in your life when God brought you peace, joy and consolation. Give thanks for these moments and remember to go to God when in trouble.
