2 Cor. 9:6-11 Ps. 112:1-4, 9 | Mt. 6:1-6, 16-18
Paul continues his dialogue with the Corinthians and takes them one step further on the journey. He invites them to not only give but to give generously and to give out of their abundance. Those who give abundantly will be rewarded abundantly. Those who give sparingly will reap sparingly. Jesus likewise calls us to go a step further. We do good deeds to do them because others are in need and not just to receive recognition and gratitude from others. Rather, we should perform these deeds because others are in need. Those who do good deeds just to receive the recognition of others will be rewarded here on earth. Those who do so because others are in need will be rewarded by God in heaven.
