Gn. 12:1-9 | Ps. 33:12-13, 18-20, 22 | Mt. 7:1-5
Genesis tells the story of Abraham’s call by God to move to another land. God promises him that he will be given great amounts of land and descendants. Abraham, now older, responds positively and moves with his family and possessions. He arrives and God shows him all that will be his. This passage tells us that Abraham moved by stages to the Negeb. Abraham was a man who loved God, was hospitable and caring. In return, God provided for Abraham and gave him great land and numerous descendants. God is never outdone in generosity.
Jesus reminds us that we are called to be free from judging others. We must realize that the way we judge others is the way we will be judged. The amount that is given to us will be the amount we give of ourselves, our money, our time and our talent.
Consider the call in today’s readings. How is God inviting you to respond with love and care and concern? The Gospel seems to ask for the impossible. We read that Abraham moved by stages. God will likewise provide for us so that we may move from one place of generosity to another. God will provide for us and be with us at each stage on our journey just as God was with Abraham.
