1Mc. 1:10-15, 41-43, 54-57, 62-63 | Ps. 119:53, 61, 134, 150, 155, 158 | Lk. 18:35-43
The readings call us to a new vision. Macabees contains the story concerning the Israelites who lost sight of their heavenly goal. Because they were without vision, heart vision, they gave into the worship of false gods. Jesus encounters a blind man who is so filled with a desire to see that he calls out to Jesus despite being told not to do so. When asked what he wants, the man says: “Lord that I may see.” Our vision includes physical, spiritual, and mental sight. Jesus implies this when He says to him, “Receive your sight, your faith has saved you.” Faith is the vision by which we come to believe all that God has revealed to us. It is the vision that allows us to trust God to be God.
Pause to be with this Gospel. Ask God to help you have clear vision to be able to see where God leads you and to trust God to give you with all you need.
