Rom. 11:1-2a, 11-12, 25-29 Ps. 94:12-13a, 14-15, 17-18 Lk. 14:1, 7-11
The The scriptures are talking about taking a position at the table. Paul tells the Romans that the Jews, because of their refusal to follow Christ, will take a lower place. Jesus, observing invited guests trying to take the first place at the table, calls them to examine their actions. Jesus is trying to teach us that when we try to take places of notice, or to exalt ourselves, inevitably we will be humbled. Those who are humble will be exalted. Jesus was teaching all of us an important lesson. We are called to examine the reason why we do things. Do we do things because we are seeking notice and acclaim? Do we do them because we love God and want to bring others to God?
