Ez. 47:1-2, 8-9, 12 | Ps. 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9 | 1Cor. 3:9c-13, 16-17 | Jn. 2:13-22
Today we celebrate the dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran. We hold the places where we worship as dear and sacred. The readings speak about this respect. Ezekiel relates the moment when he is brought into the Temple and becomes aware of the presence of God. He realizes how awesome it is to be in God’s presence. Paul tells us that God’s temple is holy but he also brings us to realize that each of us is a temple of God, the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
He encourages us to realize how great this gift is and to honor and respect our bodies. Jesus goes into the temple and becomes angry because the leaders were desecrating the temple by selling animals etc. Jesus likewise calls us to recognize the holiness of our bodies. We have been gifted by the presence of God within us. This is indeed an overwhelming gift of God’s love that God should dwell within us.
Take time to ponder this great gift of the mystery of God’s dwelling within you. Gift yourself to God with great joy, peace and acceptance. Just be with this mystery. Give thanks to God.
