Neh. 8: 1-4a, 5-6, 7b-12 | Ps. 19:8-11 | Lk. 10:1-12
The Gospel about the missioning of the seventy-two disciples is most appropriate for today. Jesus sends these disciples in twos to preach the Word. He sends them with very little traveling gear and without degrees. Jesus tells them to stay wherever they are welcomed. They are to offer peace to the household. If a peaceful person resides there, peace will rest on them. If not, the peace will return to the disciple. They are to stay in one place and go out to others from there. If the town welcomes them, they are to stay and minister there; if not, they are to wipe the dust of the town from their feet and go on to another town.
Jesus is inviting us, it seems, to share the Good News with others. Of all the gifts we can offer another, God’s peace is perhaps the best. Try to spread God’s peace today.
Spend time reflectively today. How is Christ calling you to follow Him in spreading the Good News? Perhaps you are simply being asked to bring Christ’s peace and joy to your family, your friends, and your co-workers.
