Bar. 1:15-22 | Ps. 79:1-5, 8–9 | Lk. 10:13-16
Both readings remind us that we are sinners who have decided to do things our way rather than follow God. Baruch is praying for the people of Israel and imploring God to forgive them. Jesus is continuing His talk to the disciples. He reminds the disciples that those who reject them will receive worse punishment than the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. The people of Tyre and Sidon will also be forgiven more than those who reject Jesus’ disciples. Why is this? Because those who keep the Word of God and have seen evidence of God’s workings have received more than those who have only heard about God.
Once again we observe the call to listen, to see, to respond, to evangelize. We have experienced Jesus and thus must go out and bring this great gift to others. Doing so, we will share in the kingdom of God.
