Our Lady of Guadalupe
Readings: Zec. 2:14-17 | Ps. Judith13:18-19 | Lk. 1:39-47
Zechariah tells the story of the coming of one who dwells among the people. All should rejoice and stand in reverence for the Holy One comes to be with them. Luke relates the story of another woman, the Blessed Virgin Mary, who has heard the Word of God spoken to her. She replies with a “yes” despite knowing the fact that she knows it will require suffering on her part. We have this reading again today because we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We celebrate her appearance to Juan Diego. She has once again chosen to appear to a poor person. Why? Because this person has the heart of a child who loves deeply and is willing to say “yes” to what God asks along the way. We are called to examine our responses to God. Are we willing to do as God directs us?
Today, consider Mary and pray with this scripture. Ask God to give you a loving heart so that you will be willing to do all that God asks of you. Ask for the grace to realize that all you are and have belong to God.
