Zechariah is proclaiming to the Israelites that they are called to repentance. The first verses speak of destruction but the second part, speaks of the coming of the just One who will relieve the people from their haughtiness and will bring all those who are just to the Lord. The Gospel seems to repeat this when Jesus tells us of the two sons. The one, responds, “yes” but means “no.” The second says “no” but repents and carries out his “yes.” Jesus also speaks about John the Baptist and all who listened to him, those who are humble and who know they are sinners.
Today, spend time reflecting on your response to Jesus’ call. How do you respond, “yes” and mean “no,” “no” and then reconsider and change to “yes” or non-committal? How might you change to a full hearted “yes?”
