Familiarity with the Lord

Saturday of the Third Week of Lent

Readings: Judges 13: 2-7, 24-25 | Ps. 71: 3-6, 16-17 | Lk. 1: 5-25

Hannah and Elizabeth are both barren and in old age, that is, beyond the age of bearing children. God sends an angel to tell them that they will conceive and bear sons. Hannah’s child is dedicated to God, and she names him Samson. Elizabeth’s child is also to be dedicated to God and is to be named John. Hannah believes God, but Zechariah does not do so readily. Both Samson and John prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. As Christians, we are called to prepare all the people for God. As God graced both Samson and John to do so; likewise, God will grace us to do so.

Today consider the ways in which God brought about the salvation of His people. God’s love is so deep that God will do whatever is necessary to bring healing and love to the people. What love this is!

God will also shower us with all the graces we need to carry out His Word today. Spend time with these stories today and ask for what you need to walk in the footsteps of Samson, John and Jesus.
