Memorial of Saint Scholastica, Virgin

1Kings 11:4-13  | Ps.106:3-4, 35-37, 40 | Mark 7:24-30

Today’s scriptures cause us to stop and recognize that we are called to remain faithful to God and steadfast in our belief in God.  Solomon, great king as he was, faltered in his old age and failed to remain faithful to God.  He built altars to the gods of all his wives and worshiped them.  Because of this, God takes his blessings away from Solomon and tells him that the kingdom of his son will be divided.  The woman in the Gospel approaches Jesus for healing for her daughter. Jesus seems to test her by refusing to help her because she is a Jew.  The woman, however, remains steadfast and continues to approach Jesus for help.  Because of her willingness to seek help, her daughter is healed.

Think of times when you became weary of asking God for help?  Talk to God about those moments of doubt and ask for a steadfast/faithful heart.

What are some of the ways you are tempted to worship other gods?  So you seek for more money and prestige?  Are these items becoming more important than God?  Resolve to ask God for a new and renewed heart.
