Feast of Sts. Cyril and Mythodius
Gn. 6:5-8; 7:1-5, 10 | Ps. 29:1a, 2, 3-4, 9c-10 | Mk. 8:14-21
Jesus has just refused to give the Pharisees a sign because their hearts are not open or receptive to the Word of God. Now Jesus tries to warn his disciples to be wary of these Pharisees and Scribes. They are capable of leading the disciples and others away from God. The disciples take Jesus literally; and, so Jesus is frustrated. We would be the same. God is trying to warn the people to put aside their evil ways but they do not. As a result, God sends a flood to destroy everything but what is found on the Ark.
The message today is: “ be attentive and aware.” Listen to God’s word and follow it. Don’t go along with the crowd or be influenced by the culture. Our actions will reap their rewards. Ask God for the grace to be attentive to God’s ways and to follow in His paths not the path of the most popular, etc.
