Wednesday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time

James 1:19-27 | Ps. 15:2-5 | Mark 8:22-26

James is calling us to live the Word of God by putting the words that we hear into action.  If one truly hears the Word spoken to us through the scriptures, then one has to respond to those who are in need.  James is saying without doubt that we are called to be doers of the Word rather than hearers only.  To do this, one has to have an open heart and one who welcomes the inspiration of the Holy Spirit into one’s heart.

Reflect on your quality of listening.  Do you hear your spouse, your children, your boss, your peers? Or do you simple listen and dismiss the words spoken?

How do you listen to God?  To the Word of God spoken at liturgy?  Do you hear this word and respond by taking action or do you simply listen and walk away from church and forget everything that is said?

What are you willing to change about your quality of listening?
