James 3:1-10 | Ps. 12:2-5, 7-8 | Mark 9:2-13
Jesus is transfigured before the apostles so that their faith in him can be strengthened. Jesus also tells them about his inevitable death. When the apostles ask him about the return of Elijah, Jesus tells them that Elijah has returned and will be treated with contempt and suffer greatly. Jesus is referring to himself. He is trying to bring the apostles to take the transfiguration and hold onto this in order to be ready for his crucifixion and death.
Think of a time when you felt God in your life. Recall that event and stay with it for awhile, allowing yourself to feel the same presence of God in your life. Now do something to remind yourself of God’s love for you so that you will be able to recall that love when things do not go the way you want them to go. Remember God’s love in that moment of sorrow.
