Familiarity with the Lord

HOMILY OF HIS HOLINESS POPE FRANCIS ("Familiarity with the Lord") The disciples were fishermen: indeed, Jesus had called them when [...]

Feast of St. Hilary

1 Sm. 4:1-11 | Ps. 44:10-11, 14-15, 24-25 | Mk. 1:40-45

The first reading relates how the Israelites were defeated against the Philistines.  Even though they sent for the Ark of the Covenant to be placed in their midst they were defeated.  What this tells us is that our belief and trust in God must be seen at a deeper level than in outward signs.  God wants us to trust in God not in the things of God.  There is a great distinction here.  We can see this more fully in the Gospel reading when the leper comes to Jesus and states: “Lord, if you will, you can cure me.”  Jesus is so touched by this declaration of faith that He immediately responds: “I do, will, be cleaned.”  The leper has placed His faith in God and is healed.  How often do you make a request from God fully believing that God can heal you?  This reading is full of trust.  The Holy Spirit is with us to direct us.

Take time to be with God in prayer.  Let all other concerns give way for the gift of God’s love .  Receive graciously from God.  Don’t forget to give thanks to God for all the gifts you receive.
