Feast of St. Fabian

Readings: Heb. 7:1-3, 15-17 | Ps. 110:1-4 | Mk. 3:1-6

We hear the author of Hebrews refer to Christ as a High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek who was the High Priest appointed by God forever. Thus, the author draws for us the fact that Jesus was the High Priest whose sacrifice of Himself was an offering which made heaven possible for us. Sadly, the Pharisees did not recognize Christ as the Prophet, the Messiah. They were men with hardened hearts who refused to allow themselves to recognize the wonderful deeds that Jesus did. Notice that Jesus did not allow the reaction of the Pharisees dictate who He was or how He would act. Rather, Jesus came to do the will of the Father, and so He healed the sick and cured all types of diseases.

Take time to pray with this scripture passage. Notice Jesus’ reaction to the Pharisees. Is there any area of your life where you are hard hearted? Take these to Christ and ask Him to make your heart soft and open to His healing touch. Respond positively to Christ’s call and gift of love.
