Feast of The Holy Name of Jesus

1 Jn. 2:29-3:6 | Ps. 98:1-3-6 | Jn. 1:29-34

The first reading reminds us that we are children of God.  As such we must know that many do not know God and that they do not come to Him but rather belong to the world.  We will come to be like God when the end comes, and we will see Him as He is.  The Gospel continues the story of John.  John points out who Jesus is.  He knows He is the One sent by God because the Holy Spirit told him he would know He is the One on whom the dove descended at Baptism. John was one who listened to God in prayer.  Having listened intently, he is confident that God would fulfill His promise, and he would recognize Christ.  We are called to spend time in quiet in prayer with God.  We are called to trust that God will favor His people and will guide us today as He has in the past.  That may mean that those who do not care and are only concerned for the goods of this world may not understand or agree with us.

Today, continue your conversation with John the Baptist.  Ask him to obtain the graces of perseverance and strength to listen to God’s Holy Spirit, living, guiding, and directing you.  Take time to be with Christ in prayer.  Trust that Christ will direct you on the path that leads to Him, the Father, and the Spirit.
