Familiarity with the Lord

Feast of St. John Bosco

2 Sm. 15: 13-14, 30, 16: 5-13 | Ps. 3: 2-7  | Mk 5: 1-20

David is being betrayed by his son, Absolom.  Instead of fighting him, David flees and does all in his power not to lose him.  Jesus comes to the area of the Gerasenes.  He is approached by a man who is possessed and requests healing.  Jesus does so and the legion who possesses the man asks that Jesus send them into the swine.  Doing so, the swine run into the sea.  People are shocked and angry.  They are more concerned about the animals than they are about the man who was healed.  This same thing happens today in many ways.  God invites us to see the great value God has for each individual.  The value exceeds that of the price of swine.  God has allowed Christ to gift himself over to us through His death on the Cross in order to bring us healing from our sins and rejection.  God’s love knows no bounds.  God invites us to grow in love with God and with our human family.

How do you accept the love of God for you?  Do you allow yourself to accept God’s deep love for you?  When do you respond to others’ needs?  How willing are you to come to their aid?  How is God calling you to gift yourself to others?
