Christmas Weekday
1Jn. 5:14 -21 | Ps. 149:1-6, 9b | Jn. 3:22-30
John is reminding us in the first reading that those who believe in Christ have Christ as an intercessor. Jesus has come and has taught us about God, and we know that Jesus is God and has brought us eternal life. The Gospel exhibits John the Baptist’s realization of his purpose in life. He knows that he has come as a predecessor of Jesus and that his job is to lead others to Christ. When questioned by his disciples, John does not try to keep his followers but gives witness to Jesus and sends them people to follow Jesus.
It takes great self-knowledge and self-assurance not to try to keep people believing in oneself and retain all the self-glory. John, through his years of sacrifice and prayer, came to this self-knowledge. He knew who he was and what he was called to do. He wasted no time in sending all to Jesus, the Messiah. We are called to spend time in prayer so that we will also be able to realize our call, which is to send/bring others to Christ. Take time today to pray and ask God for the gift to be able to bring others to Jesus.
