Tuesday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Is 7:1-9 | Ps. 48:2-8 | Mt. 11:20-24
Have you ever tried to tell a true story about what happened in the past? Do the people who are listening believe you? Do you find that they have a puzzled look on their faces? This is what is happening to Jesus. He has been telling the people true stories about God’s love and care. He has challenged beliefs about carrying out the letter of the law and tries to teach them the law of love. However they do not want to listen. They find His ways difficult to believe and “different from” what they were used to hearing. Thus Jesus tries another approach to startle the people, “rock their boats,” to bring them to listen to His words. They hear the Word of God and refuse to believe. Jesus tells them that because He walked with them and they refused to accept him, their lot in life will be much worse than that of Tyre and Sidon.
To what degree do you accept Jesus’ words of love and life? Do you accept these words and live out of them? Do the material promises of our world get in the way and distract you from a commitment to follow Jesus? Take time today to look at your life and decide what is important? Do what it takes to follow Jesus.
