Feast of St. Apollinaris
Ex. 14:21-15:1 | Ps. Ex. 15:8-10, 12, 17 | Mt. 12:46-50
The continuation of the story of the crossing of the Red Sea shows us that God was faithful to Israel and that God wanted the people to be free. Jesus is told that His mother and brothers were outside and wanted to speak to Him. His reply is to ask a question: “Who is my mother and my brother?” His response was to point to a disciple and say that the one who did the will of His Father, is the one who is His mother, brother, and sister. Jesus is trying to teach us that He always did the will of the Father. Anyone who wants to be considered a disciple of Jesus must be willing to do the same. Mary, Jesus’ Mother, was/is the perfect example of one who did the will of God.
Consider what it means to do the will of the Father. How well do you follow in the footsteps of Christ? How loving are you? Will you be willing to love as Christ loved? Begin today to love all with whom you come in contact.
