Feast of St. Lawrence of Brindisi

Jwr. 2:1-3, 7-8, 12-13 | Ps. 36:6-11 | Mt. 13:10-17

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene.  She was caught by the love of Christ and was full of love for Him.  The disciples ask Jesus why he speaks in parables.  His response seems to indicate that those who want to hear the word of God, will hear the word even if is is given in parables.  Those who are hardened and have only one way of seeing will not hear even when the Word of God is spoken clearly.  He then reminds them that they are blessed because they have walked with him and heard his Word.  Many have longed for this opportunity but have not been so blessed.  We are called to listen to the Word of God.  How well do we listen?  Hearing the Word, do we act upon that Word and bring the message into action in our lives and into the way we interact with others?

Take time to see how well you listen to the Word of God.  Do you respond with openness?  Do you try to put that Word into action by the way you live?   What area of your life needs additional work?  Take that area to God and ask God to know what to do to change.  Have ears to hear and eyes to see.
