Feast of St. Mary Magdalene
Sg. 3:1-4 | Ps. 63:2-6, 8-9 | Jn 20:1-2, 11-18
The reading from the Song of Songs is a love song and its imagery is beautiful. The Gospel is the story of Mary Magdalene and her despondency over the fact that Jesus is not in the tomb. She wants to give a proper burial to Jesus and cannot find his body. When she sees the man in the garden, she is thinking that he is the gardener and asks the question. Jesus’ response is simply to call her by name. “Mary.” Upon hearing her name called, she immediately recognizes that this is Jesus.
Mary is so touched by Jesus. She cannot keep this information to herself. She runs back to Jerusalem and tells he apostles that Jesus is risen. Have you taken time this. Easter to look for Jesus in your life? Are you willing to spend time with Jesus to enjoy His company and to share the Good News with others? Why not try to spend ten to fifteen minutes extra with Jesus during this Easter time?
