Feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga

2Kings 19:9b-11, 14-21, 31-35a, 36 | Ps. 48:2-4, 10-11 | Mt. 7:6, 12-14

Today’s Gospel calls us to look at the way we live and see if we are living according to our model, Jesus.  We are tempted to take the easy path in completing a task.  That is true for all of us, I suppose.  However, Jesus is talking about the way we live the life of the Gospel.  Our world’s message, as seen through the media, is that we shouldn’t have to work hard. There is an easier way.  Get out and obtain the newer model of machinery, etc., and take life easy.  The message extends to living a moral life.  Give into the temptations that surround you.  Cheat on your employer.  Take advantage of co-workers.  Think of self before spouse, children, others.

Today consider the ways in which you are tempted to take the easy road.  Ask God for the strength you need to remain faithful to his teachings.  Give thanks to God for the times you were faithful in the past.
