Thursday of the First Week of Lent
Esther C:12, 14-16, 23-25 | Ps 138:1-3, 7-8 | Mt. 7:7-12
Once again Jesus invites us to have the spirit of a child who has complete trust in the parents. No real parent would give a child something that would harm them. Evil people might do that, but good people could never do so. The openness of the child to trust is one of the attitudes Jesus is calling us to develop. Trust in God is essential for us. God will never harm us when we ask for something good. We must believe that God wants only the best for us. We might not receive exactly what we wanted, but God will do good things for us nevertheless.
Today, ask God for the spirit of trust and openness to hear and accept God’s word. Think of the way in which you pray. Begin today anew by allowing God to touch your life and gift you with these gifts of trust and openness.
