Saturday of the Second Week of Lent
Mi. 7:14-15, 18-20 |Ps. 103:1-4, 9-12 | Lk. 15:1-3, 11-32
Both Scripture passages bring us face to face with the love of God for us that is beyond any imaginings that we may have. God’s love is shown as an outlandish love in the story of the Prodigal Son. First, the Son is given his inheritance without question. Next, the Father forgives the Son even before the son gets a chance to recite his tale of woe. Finally, the Father forgives the older son who is jealous and makes some terrible accusations against the Father. We are called to have the same type of forgiveness towards all who offend us. When we find ourselves offended, we are called to look at the marvelous story of unbounded love and go out to others with similar attitudes of love and forgiveness. We are unable to do this on our own. God calls us to come to God for all the grace we need to act in this manner.
Spend time with Jesus praying this scripture passage today. Ask Jesus for the grace to have an open heart which loves others–a heart that will forgive others for all their wrong doing. Ask Jesus for the grace to grow, to have an open, forgiving heart as His. Think of someone who needs your forgiveness. Ask Jesus for the grace to be able to extend that forgiveness to him/her.
