Fourth Sunday of Lent

2Chronicles 36:14-16, 19-23 | Ps. 137:1-6 | Eph. 2:4-10 | John 3:14-21

Today we are reminded in Chronicles that the prophets were not listened to and were killed. Because the Israelites did not listen to the prophets, they fell and were enslaved. This happened time after time. Paul reminds us that God saves us through the gift of faith. Jesus reminds us that just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert in order that those who looked upon it would be saved, so He will be lifted up on the Cross in order that we may be saved. God sent Jesus to the world so that His words would be listened to and we would be freed from our slavery to sin. We are called to bring ourselves to hear the Word of Jesus and to accept it. If we do, then we will do good deeds for others and allow the light of Christ to shine on us and go out to others through those good deeds.

Today, think about the last time you felt God calling you to do good deeds. Did you listen with an open heart? Did you follow up on those words and perform the good deeds?

What might God be calling you to do this fourth week of Lent? Will you allow the Light of Christ to shine through you this week?
