Saturday of the Third Week of Lent

Hosea 6:1-6 | Ps. 51:3-4, 18-21 | Luke 18:9-14

We are called to be humble and recognize that God has granted all we have and are.  Today’s readings seem to follow upon yesterday’s.  If we come to recognize God as first in our lives, then we will also recognize that we are who we are through the power and grace of God.  We will give credit to God for these gifts and use them to give God glory and praise. Humility is strength.  When we boast of our accomplishments and abilities, then we are weak.  Usually boasting comes from a need to be recognized by others so that our self-concept will increase.  When we give credit to God for our gifts, we show that we place our reliance on God and do not have to boost our egos.

Take time today to offer thanks to God for all your gifts.  Allow God to bless you further and resolve to help others out through generous sharing of your gifts.
