Ash Wednesday

Joel 2:12-18 | Ps. 51:3-6, 12-14, 17 | 2Cor. 5:20-6:2 | Mt. 6:1-6, 16-18

We begin the beautiful season of Lent today.  It is a wonderful time to spend with God and allow God to touch us deeply.  This is a time to come closer to God, to come to know ourselves better and to change those things about ourselves that keep us from being close to God.  Today we are tenderly called by God to do this.  All the readings are telling us of God’s tenderness towards us.  Jesus calls us to look at our actions.  Do we act out of love for God or to be noticed by others?  Jesus invites us into that love relationship with God that enables us to want to do all out of love.

Spend time today just being with God. Recall all the wonderful things God has done for you this year.  Thank God for these gifts. Reflect on the ways in which you have not been grateful to God for these gifts.  Bring these times to God.  Tell God how sorry you are for these times of failure.  Let God take these moments and heal you.

Resolve to spend some time with God in prayer each day of Lent.
