Wednesday of the Third Week of Lent
Deut. 4:1, 5-9 | Ps. 147:12-13, 15-16, 19-20 | Mt. 5:17-19
This passage from Deuteronomy relates God’s Word spoken to the Israelites before they enter the Promised Land. God is reminding them of all that they have been taught so that they will give great example to all the others nations with whom they will be in contact. God asks them to remember to be faithful and to teach their children how to be faithful and to be grateful for all that God has done for them. Jesus likewise tells the Pharisees and Jewish people that His task is to fulfill all that the prophets have said about Him. He also has come to bring about the fullness of the law. Christ promises that nothing about the law will pass away until He has fulfilled it. We know that this has happened. Christ will bring about all that has been promised to us. We are asked to be faithful to all that Christ has taught us.
Take some time to reflect on your life and all the blessings of your life as a result of the life of Christ. Give thanks for these blessing and ask God for the strength to live faithfully and lovingly each day of your life.
